Ingredients
Scale
- For the Dry Rub:
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- For the Ribs:
- 2 racks of pork baby back ribs (about 4 pounds)
- 1/4 cup yellow mustard (for coating)
- For the BBQ Sauce:
- 1 cup barbecue sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 2 tablespoons honey (optional, for sweetness)
Instructions
- Prepare the Ribs:
- Preheat your grill to 275°F (135°C) for indirect heat.
- Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs for better seasoning penetration. Rinse and pat the ribs dry with paper towels.
- Coat the ribs with a thin layer of yellow mustard. This helps the dry rub stick and enhances the flavor.
- Apply the Dry Rub:
- In a small bowl, mix all the dry rub ingredients. Generously sprinkle the rub over both sides of the ribs, pressing it into the meat.
- Grill the Ribs:
- Place the ribs bone-side down on the grill grates over indirect heat. Close the lid and cook for 2 1/2 to 3 hours, checking occasionally to maintain the temperature.
- Add the BBQ Sauce:
- In the last 30 minutes of cooking, brush the ribs with BBQ sauce. Flip and glaze the other side for a sticky, caramelized coating.
- Check for Doneness:
- The ribs are ready when the meat pulls away easily from the bones, or when the internal temperature reaches 190°F (88°C).
- Serve:
- Let the ribs rest for 10 minutes before cutting into individual portions. Serve with extra BBQ sauce on the side and your favorite summer sides.
Notes
- Use a smoker for even more flavor. Add wood chips like hickory or applewood for a smoky aroma.
- For oven preparation, bake the ribs at 275°F (135°C) covered in foil for 2 hours, then broil with BBQ sauce for a few minutes.
- Pair with coleslaw, cornbread, or grilled vegetables for a complete summer meal.
