Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Stir-Fry:
    • 1 lb (450g) beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
    • 1 tbsp cornstarch
    • 2 tbsp soy sauce
    • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
    • 4 cups broccoli florets
    • 2 garlic cloves, minced
    • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • For the Sauce:
    • 1/4 cup soy sauce
    • 1/4 cup beef broth or water
    • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
    • 1 tbsp brown sugar
    • 1 tbsp cornstarch
    • 1 tsp sesame oil

Instructions

  • Marinate the Beef:
In a bowl, toss the beef slices with cornstarch and soy sauce. Let it marinate for 10-15 minutes while preparing the other ingredients.
  • Make the Sauce:
In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, beef broth, oyster sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, and sesame oil. Set aside.
  • Cook the Beef:
Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the beef in a single layer and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
  • Stir-Fry Broccoli:
In the same skillet, add a splash of oil if needed. Stir-fry broccoli for 2-3 minutes until tender but still crisp. Add garlic and ginger, stirring for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • Combine and Sauce:
Return the beef to the skillet. Pour the prepared sauce over the beef and broccoli, stirring to coat everything evenly. Cook for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  • Serve:
Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles, garnished with sesame seeds or green onions if desired.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a splash of rice vinegar or chili flakes to the sauce.
  • Swap broccoli for other vegetables like snap peas, bell peppers, or carrots for variety.
