Ingredients

  • All-Purpose Flour
  • Granulated Sugar
  • Unsalted Butter
  • Whole Milk
  • Eggs
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Cornstarch
  • Cocoa Powder
  • Heavy Whipping Cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 9-inch round baking pans.
  2. Cream sugar and butter until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well.
  3. Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool completely.
  4. For the custard, whisk milk, sugar, cornstarch, and egg yolks in a saucepan over low heat until thickened (5-7 minutes). Stir in vanilla extract and cool slightly.
  5. For the ganache, combine heavy cream and cocoa powder in a saucepan over low heat until smooth; pour over chopped chocolate and stir until melted.
  6. If desired, slice each cake layer horizontally; spread half of the custard between layers, then top with the second layer. Pour ganache over the top and let set for about an hour.
