- All-Purpose Flour
- Granulated Sugar
- Unsalted Butter
- Whole Milk
- Eggs
- Vanilla Extract
- Cornstarch
- Cocoa Powder
- Heavy Whipping Cream
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 9-inch round baking pans.
- Cream sugar and butter until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well.
- Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool completely.
- For the custard, whisk milk, sugar, cornstarch, and egg yolks in a saucepan over low heat until thickened (5-7 minutes). Stir in vanilla extract and cool slightly.
- For the ganache, combine heavy cream and cocoa powder in a saucepan over low heat until smooth; pour over chopped chocolate and stir until melted.
- If desired, slice each cake layer horizontally; spread half of the custard between layers, then top with the second layer. Pour ganache over the top and let set for about an hour.
