Description

This Beef with Brown Sugar Glaze recipe is the perfect combination of savory and sweet. Tender beef is seared to perfection and coated with a sticky, caramelized brown sugar glaze infused with soy sauce, garlic, and a touch of spice. Ideal for weeknight dinners or a special occasion, this dish pairs wonderfully with steamed rice or roasted vegetables

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

For the Brown Sugar Glaze:

  • 1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/4 cup water

Optional Garnish:

  • Sliced green onions
  • Sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Beef:
    • Toss the sliced beef with cornstarch in a bowl, ensuring each piece is lightly coated.
    • Let it rest for 10 minutes while you prepare the glaze ingredients.
  2. Cook the Beef:
    • Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
    • Add the beef in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the skillet.
    • Sear for 2-3 minutes on each side until browned. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  3. Make the Brown Sugar Glaze:
    • In the same skillet, lower the heat to medium and add brown sugar, soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, ginger, red pepper flakes (if using), and water.
    • Stir and simmer for 3-4 minutes, or until the sauce thickens slightly.
  4. Combine and Serve:
    • Return the cooked beef to the skillet and toss to coat with the glaze.
    • Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes to ensure the beef is warmed through and the glaze is caramelized.
    • Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds if desired.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, marinate the beef in soy sauce and garlic for 30 minutes before cooking.
  • Serve with steamed jasmine rice, quinoa, or roasted vegetables for a complete meal.
